WE REGRET THAT THIS CONFERENCE WAS UNABLE TO TAKE PLACE DUE TO THE COVID-19 CRISIS.

Instead of meeting in person, we are currently bringing experts from psychiatry, philosophy, and literature together in conversation, to think about humanities in teaching for clinicians, compassion in care, and doctors’ wellbeing, with a particular focus on how literature has reflected pandemics through history.

For further information, see our Podcasts and Publications.

Mind Reading’s fourth annual conference was scheduled take place on 3 April 2020 at the Royal College of Physicians, Ireland. This historic venue in the centre of Dublin has long been associated with physician training and wellbeing in Ireland, and boasts a new collection of artefacts related to the history of medical practice in Ireland that will form part of an exhibition at Mind Reading.

This year’s conference was to continue our focus on the theme of adolescent health and narrative, including speakers from humanities, medicine and experts by experience. This includes participation of Bodywhys, REFOCUS, Childrens Books Ireland, speakers including Dr. Suzanne O’Sullivan, Dr. Emilie Pine, Prof Femi Oyebode, Prof Des O’Neill, Prof Hilary Moss, Prof Chris Fitzpatrick, Dr. Donal Brennan, AND Prof Gerardine Meaney.
